Now I Know, Medical Electronic Are Not That Simple....

Nice to meet you again......

Didn't realized its already week 3!! I met my supervisor Thursday before, and i show him the DIY PPG that i found on the internet. We had discuss about the DIY PPG. The cost is estimated around RM70.00. All of the components and the can be found as listed at table below.

Component for PPG
Vendor
MCP6004 IC
Online RS Component/jalan pasar
14 pin DIP socket
Jalan pasar
1k,150R,47k,5k potentionmeter,10k,680k,6.8k resistor
Jalan pasar
100nF,4.7uF
Jalan pasar
PCB
Jalan pasar
5 pin header
Jalan pasar
2n3904 transistor
Jalan pasar
Tcrt 1000 Reflective Optical Sensors
Online RS component/jalan pasar
3mm red led
Jalan pasar
But, i told my supervisor, that we can buy online for the complete PPG device which only cost 18 dollar. After few discussion, we found that there are disadvantages to buy things that we doesn't have experience about it. There are:-
  • We don't know the output of the devices such as the sensitivity of it
  • We don't know if modification of the circuit will effect too much of the circuit
  • How long will the devices arrived at our place
Then, because of that matter, Sir Saiful Yusri suggest that to used the device that he used before for his students project. But, we have to wait around 2 weeks minimum for the device to be delivered. Though it is required 2 weeks, don't think that i'm on VACATION and not updating the blog...Will keep in touch in next blog..bye now...sleep..zzzzzZZZZzz

Wow!! Let's Get Started

Good Morning People,!!

The first study is about the Photoplethysmography (PPG). PPG is the devices that can measured beat rate of a person. Heart rate is the number of heartbeats per unit of time, typically expressed as beats per minute (bpm). So then, i have to study things that out of my major, which is about medication. What i search, due to individuals having a constant blood volume, one of the physiological ways to deliver more oxygen to an organ is to increase heart rate to permit blood to pass by the organ more often. Normal resting heart rates range from 60-100 bpm. Bradycardia is defined as a resting heart rate below 60 bpm. However, hearts rates from 50 to 60 bpm are common among healthy people and do not necessarily require special attention. Tachycardia is defined as a resting heart rate above 100 bpm, though persistent rest rates between 80-100 bpm, mainly is they are present during sleep maybe signs of hyperthyroidism or anemia.

This is just enough for my basic about health and medication, before developing heart beat rate devices that can view by smartphone via wirelessly. Then, i have to search the types of PPG that suitable to make it as Graphical User Interface for monitoring data in smartphone. Which the output from the PPG is send via wirelessly.

Research have been made, i found that a DIY photoplethysmographic sensor for measuring heart rate is more easier and not using much budget. Therefor, future modification of the PPG is easy to be done since there are diagram which still can i study with my supervisor. For more information regarding the DIY PPG can be found here http://embedded-lab.com/blog/?p=5508... See you in the next blog... Thanks for reading my blog until the 3rd week.

Finally,Registered!!

Since I’m nearing the end of my studying year in this university, within this week, I have to start registered the topic for my final year project (FYP). The registration has to be made at fyp.bmi.unikl.edu.my website with my supervisor Sir Saiful Yusri in Communication Technology Section.
After registering the title, we had a short discussion about the project. There are as below:-
            i.        Discuss about the photoplethysmography (PPG) – heart beat monitoring device
ii.        Discuss about how the output of the heart beat rate transferred to the smartphone

Then, I go back to my room, so I’ll go in to more detail on this because I have few knowledge about the medical electronic and communication devices since I am an electrical student. But basically, I found an interesting topic, because to develop android application is my hobby. I’ve developed some simple application before by using Java Development Kit. It is quite enjoyable because it is successful even it was simple program.
I’m just happy that my supervisor is really cool, this has relaxed me slightly, but I still have to get it done for my research for this semester before developing this device. Just decided to write a blog post to get me in to a writing mood, hopefully it will help!
